• မာရ်ငါးပါး | mun2 nga3 ba3 - [Buddhism] the five hindrances, obstacles and temptations that stand in the way of the path to liberation, the five that ဂေါတမဗုဒ္ဓ | gau3-da1-ma1 boat-da1 - Gautama Buddha (ˈbü-də 🔊) conquered at the time of enlightenment:
  
  
  1. ဒေဝပုတ္တမာရ် | day2-wa1 poat-ta1 mun2 - Devaputta-Mara, also called မာရ်နတ် | mun2 nut that tempts beings with worldly pleasures.
     
     
  2. ကိလေသမာရ် | ki1-lay2-tha1 mun2 - Kilesa-Mara, mental defilements such as greed, hate, delusion and pride.
     
     
  3. အဘိသင်္ခါရမာရ် | a-be1-thin2-kha1-ra1 mun2 - Abhisankhara-Mara - one's own actions good or bad, which lead to rebirth in good or bad destination accordingly. In either case, rebirth ends with an another round of death, and keeps one trapped in the never-ending သံသရာ | thun2-dtha1-ya2 - Samara (səmˈsɑrə 🔊), instead of reaching နိဗ္ဗာန် | nate-bun2 - Nirvana (nərˈvɑnə 🔊), the end of suffering.
     
     
  4. ခန္ဓမာရ် | khan2-da1 mun2 - Khandha-Mara, in reference to ခန္ဓာငါးပါး | khan2-da2 nga3 ba3 - the five aggregates (ˈa-gri-gət 🔊) which will eventually end up in death. On the other hand, the "Deathless" state နိဗ္ဗာန် | nate-bun2 is devoid of the five aggregates.
     
     
  5. မစ္စုမာရ် | mit-su1 mun2 - Maccu-Mara, the death itself, which leads to an another round of existence instead of နိဗ္ဗာန် | nate-bun2.
