  (2) division or watch of the night (ˈwäch 🔊). In ancient times, the night is divided into 4 watches or divisions. The first watch is the evening nightfall when the sun goes down from 6 pm to 9 pm. The second watch starts from midway point between the nightfall and midnight from 9 pm - 12 am. The third watch is midnight or wee hours of the night from 12 am to 3 am. The fourth watch is the early dawn (ˈdȯn 🔊) from 3 am to 6 am when the rooster crows (ˈrü-stər ˈkrō 🔊). Those watches are mentioned in ancient texts such as သမ္မာကျမ်းစာ | tha1-ma2 kjan3-sa2 - the Bible (ˈbaɪbəl 🔊). Similarly, Burmese people divide the night into ညဉ့်သုံးယံ | nyin1 thone3 yan2 - three watches:
